Harkness is a bilingual bicultural high school. Half of the classes are taught in English and half in Spanish.
All Harkness students must complete a three year sequence of study in Spanish Literature. Topics covered in class span the fields of Iberian and Latin American literature, culture, and linguistics, from the medieval period to contemporary literature and film. A strong emphasis is given in developing writing and reading comprehension skills.
Aside from literary training, our faculty also have strengths in other disciplines and in interdisciplinary approaches – film, multimedia, history, art history, comparative literature – which make the department a dynamic venue for thinking and learning about multiple aspects of cultural production in both local and global contexts.
